Obesity in Malaysia is a growing issue that needs to be concerned. In general, Malaysia is one of the obese nations in Asia and the obesity among young people aged 5 - 19 years has reached the second-highest child obesity rate with 7.1 per cent of children under 5 years are being overweight.
Young people to young adults often love to eat fast food as well as sweet food. This phenomenon can easily be causing obesity which is a risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, pancreas, large intestine and kidney cancers.
According to The Star Online (2020), it was stated that most Malaysians were restricted to go out during the MCO have caused the increase in Malaysia’s obesity rates. During this MCO, young people lack physical activities as they are required to attend class online or work from home. Thus, people tend to order food online because it makes their life easier.
Whenever people felt like eating, they can just purchase online, and the food will be delivered to their house immediately without the need to go out and buy. Now people are living with the Covid-19, it is essential to let the public know the consequence of bad habits taken by young people, especially during this MCO. Thus, this campaign would like to encourage people to eat healthily and do simple exercise at home to keep their bodies healthy.
